1. 1 I LIAISON Spoke with John Elliff,
staffer on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence,
regarding Electronic Surveillance Conference. Mr. Elliff
said the SSCI and Senate Judiciary have named conferees;
conference date has not been set pending naming of House
Judiciary conferees. Representative Robert McClory's (R., Ill.)
motion to instruct House conferees to remain firm on Ertel
amendment to H.R. 7308 regarding "special court" is due on
House floor on Tuesday, 26 September. (See Memorandum for
the Record.)
2. LIAISON Called Beverley
Lumpkin, o ions Subcommittee on
International Organizations staff, to tell her that the
permission which had been sought in a letter from Chairman
Donald M. Fraser (D., Minn.) dated 19 September 1978 for
Subcommittee staff member Steven Diiv;h to review notes
taken by designated staff membersi
had been granted.
4, LIAISON Accompanied Ed Levine, Senate
Splurt ee on Intelligence staff, to a meeting with
LA/DDO, regarding the current situation in
uatema a. Levine plans to travel there in October and we
wanted to bring to his attention recent reports of increased
terrorist activity.
