DIA, called to,
see how we handled the transcripts of our briefings before the Senate
Armed Services Committee. After giving him a rundown of our pro-
cedures, he said he thought perhaps the Committee might ask DIA to
keep the transcripts at Committee staff offices, but he said he was
going to oppose it.
STAT 6. BRIEFING Brian Atwood, Congressional
Relations, State Department, called to alert us to the fact that the Senate
Foreign Relations Committee would be asking the DCI to brief them on the
Middle East air balance. I said the Committee had already called and we
had scheduled the DCI for 4 May.
STAT 7. LIAISON Took a call from Judy
tchneider, Senate Select Committee on Ethics Korean inquiry. Schneider
said that she wanted to re-examine all the documents that she has seen
previously. The review was arranged for 10:00 a. m. on Monday, 8 May 1978.

Relations Committee staff,
LIAISON George Berdes, House International
sent a letter to the Agency written by
(D. , Wisc. ). The thrust of the letter was that the Egyptians are receiving
sophisticated equipment from the Soviets which is not available to Eastern
European satellite countries. After checking with NFAC/CSS,
I called Berdes back to provide him with an Agency evaluation of the
contents of the letter.
STAT 9* LIAISON Spoke with Dennis Berhoff, in
the office ot Senator James Abourezk (D., S. Dak. ), and provided him with
answers to his questions on Israeli settlements on the West Bank of the Nile.
STAT 10.
BRIEFING Chris Aldridge, in the office of
Senator Birch Bayh (D. , Ind. visited Headquarters for a briefing on the
Middle East arms balance. NFAC/OSR, provided the briefing.
STAT 11. LIAISON Called Susan Nitsche, in the District
office of Representative Don L. Bonker (D., Wash.), and answered some
questions which had been posed by a constituent on general classification
procedures.
