1. (S/D) SIGNIFICANCE: CONFIRMATION OF A WEAPONS LOADING POSITION
ON THE BOW OF_7HTYPHOON SSBN.
2. (S/D) REMARKS: A WEAPONS LOADING POSITION HAS BEEN CONFIRMED
ON THE BOW 0 THE TYPHOON SSBN (NUCLEAR-POWERED BALLISTIC
MISSILE SUBMARINE) AT SEVERODVINSK SHIPYARD 402. THE WEAPONS
LOADING DOOR (HINGED TO PORT) IS OPEN, REVEALING A RECTANGULAR
OPENING JUST ABOVE THE WATERLINE. THE
DIIIELISIONS OF THE WEAPONS LOADING POSITION ARE SII?IILAR TO
CORRESPONDING LOADING POSITIONS ON THE V-II AND V-III SSN
(NUCLEAR-POWERED ATTACK SUBMARINE). THESE CLASSES OF
SUBMARINES CAN CARRY THE SS-N-15 AND THE SS-NX-16 MISSILES AS
WELL AS STANDARD SOVIET TORPEDOS. THIS SUGGESTS THAT THE
TYPHOON WILL HAVE A SIMILAR WEAPONS FIT OR SOME FUTURE TORPEDO
TUBE-LAUNCIIED SYSTEM.
