SUBJECT: Information Concerning the PI effort on the
Chinese Atomic Ene~'gy Program
1. The following information has been compiled, at your re-
qi est, reflecting the currently available photographic cover~Te of
Chins., reports caw-)feted, and work currently in progress
a. Large Scale Aerial Photogra2by - In 1962 a to the present
time in 1963 .proximately 3516 of Mina (including Tibet and Hainan)
has been covered by large-scale aeries 1 photography- Twenty-six ails on:s
have been accauplished since January 1962. (Attacinent A). Immediate
readouts (IPIR or SITSUM) have been performed on all missions. Detailed
scans (ICI's) have been acccmplished on 20 of the missions, representing
approximately 35% of the Chinese land area. An MCI pea not ,performed

b. KEYHOLE Pho+tograpkosr - IM photography since August 1960
covers 85 to p of Cienunist Chico. Approximately 40% of this coverage
is obscLred by scattered to heavy cl Muds ? Twenty-three K I missions have
been occanpliahed during the period from August 1960 to December 3.962
(Attachment B). Mission Coverage Indexes have been accomplished on
16 (70%) of these missions. It is estimated that approximately 759 of
China his been scanned in sane detail tbraigh accomplishment of ICI's
in these 16 missions.
