? 1. Students entered the Elementary Flying School at Olomouc in classes of
6o. Usually about 10 students were "washed out" later because of
airsickness and lack of adaptability. Plight instructions were given
50X1 in C-104 and C406 types of trainers.

2.
There were 15 qualified pilot instructors at this school
. Several of these instructors were ex-RAP personnel.
The school maintained two flights of 15 aircraft each for training
purposes; however, five from each flight were usually grounded for
maintenance.
The class of 6o was divided into two sections, and on alternate days,
one section received flight training while the other section attended
ground school. Ground school (theoretical training) was similar to
that of the Aviation Preparatory School located at Sternberk,
but of a more advanced nature.
4. Students flew solo 6i - lo hours. Any student not qualified to fly
solo after 14 hours of dual instruction was "washed out".
5. I cannot recall how many of the total 90 hours flown by students were
given to basic instrument flying. During the hours of instrument
instruction while in flight, students used two methods to simulate blind!
flying conditions. One of these methods was to make the trainee wear
fitted goggles with tin shields having a vision slot of about 5 x l cm.
The other method employed the use of a cabin or cockpit hood, colored
green with a special paint through which it was possible for the
instructor to see; students wore red goggles and could see only the
instruments.
