1. The Proete jov-Stlhovlov Military Airfield II 949N-l7039lay
six kilometers from the center of Proste jov o1. A,7. he
Airfield was easily located by the lake whic touched its
southwest corner, and by the large castle, three-four kilometers
west of the Airfield on the shore of this lake. There is
another lake in the nearby town of Plumlov.
2. Most of the hills surrounding the Airfield were about 20 m. high,
although six kilometers to he north a hill rose 200 m. above
the level of the Airfield L250 m. above sea level'. Because of
these hills, the grassy landing surface of the field was confined
to an area approximately 1,200 m. from the northwest to the
southeast limits of the field, and 700-800 m., southwest to
northeast.
3. During periods of heavy rainfall in the spring and fall, flying
was not permitted for two or three days to allow the water to
drain off the runway. In winter, flying was often forbidden
because of icy weather. Student pilots in the Advanced Pilotet
Training School (Pokraoovaoi Pilotna Skola) located on this
50X1 field wore permitted to fly only under VPR conditions.
The commanding officer of the School in 1949_was of
KUBAK; Capt. Edward KRIZ was the Deputy CO. Edward
KRiZ became a test pilot at Prague-Letnany Airfield in O.

Prostejov, In the morning military buses ran from town to
the airbase to bring personnel to work, returning themhone
in the evening, Buses. did not operate from noon Saturday until
Monday morning. No civilian vehicles were permitted on the air-
base. If one desired to go to Prostejov, it was necessary to
walk to the nearby town of Stihovice to catch a bus, since there
was no airfield bus system. There were also 5 21 ton trucks and
5 staff cars, all of German and Czech origin.
Gasoline of 90 - 9~ octane was delivered from two fuel trucks
