2. Until 1952 MOB personnel were permitted to - have their families in
they .Soviet Zone of Germany. However, since -the Summer of 1952, MOB
personnel no longer had that privilege, When personnel who already
had their wives in Germany proceeded on leave to the USSR vith their
wires, the women were'not allowed to return'to Germany.
Only Army commanders and high-ranking generals were allowed to have
their wives with them in Germany after the Summer of 1952. Maj. Gen.
(tnu) KALINICHENKO, CO of the 4th Gde, Mecz, Army, sent his wife
back to the USSR in 1953 because it was rumored that his chief of
staff, Maj. Gen. (fnu) KOSHELYOVV (his equal in rank) did not enjoy the
same privilege of having his wife with him..
4+. Military. officers and noncommissioned officers (Sverkhsrochniki)
were allowed to 'marry female military officers,, female ssoldiere, or
civilian employees; this privilege was denied to EM. Should an
officer be transferred from GOFG before his wife's tour of service
in Germany was completed, the latter was required to finish her
tour unless she became pregnant, No explanations were ever given-
