Statement of Importance: 2. The Ch mic 1 Warfare Training Cente 25X1 was the only organization of i s ype in Rumania. It was the major chemical warfare training center for the Rumanian Armed Forces, Its mission w.s the training of personnel for service in the Chemical Warfare Branch of the Rumanian Army and the training of selected er- 25X1 1 installation was used by the German Chemical Warfare Branch during World War II. 3. The Chemical Warfare Training Center was subordinate to the CW Headquarters (Cornandamentul Chimic al Armatei) located "somewhere" i Bucharest. The entire fence enclosed Chemical Center buildings located south of Fagaras on the Brasov National Highway 5t. 1 . # 2. Chemical Warfare Officers' School ~Bui ldinr and Billets: stuccoed-brick; gabled tile roof; concrete floors. Ground floor - mess halls, club, food storage; 2nd floor - telephone switchboard, administration offices and dormitories; 3rd floor - dormitories, office of political commissar,, secret documents office; 4th floor.- dormitories.(four; approximately 90 beds in each), offices of battalion and company commanders. This building, along with buildings its. 3 and 66 were the largest in the entire Fagaras area. # 3, Chemical Warfare Political Officers' School and Billets: 50 m. TEE' T5 m. wide, four stores g ; white stuccoed- brick; gabled tile roof; concrete floors. Until March 1952, the building had been the political officers' school for the chemical arm. All were commissioned per- sonnet (Lt. Cols Majors, Lt:s$~ Captains) and num- bered approximately 300. After the departure of this group in March 1952, the building was used by student officers from all the services undergoing a two-month course in chemical warfare. A short training course in the field of physio-pathology was also given to newly- commi d medical officers in this building. Personnel who were sent from the Chemical Center to pick tip chemical materials were required to wait at the guard office for materials requested. No further information. 6. Each of the four school battalions maintained a so-called 25X1 on a 24-hoot alert A password system was used, The password was changed daily. For example, one password was BUCUR. When challenged by a guard, the person challenged would state his name and als"he word BUCUR. In answer, the ;guard would say BUCHAREST. Another was CONSTANTIN which was answered with CONSTANTA, 25X1 intervention platoon. An interven on p a to be called upon in the event of terrorist raids. During the night, the personnel'of the platoon were required to sleep Bally clothed. In addition to this platoon, roving three-men patrols were used. Sentries were posted at all entrances 24 hours a day. 25X1 night a lookout was posted on the 4th floor balcony of the -.`.u ng in which he was quartered Annex B, Pt. 7.
