Prior to World War II there was a very short supply of aluminum hard- ware in the USSR. In the Georgian SSR these goods were especially scarce, and what was available was shipped from plants in the central USSR, During World War II aluminum goods were practically unobtain- able in the USSR. 2. After World War II, however, starting with the end of 1946, large , quantities of such goods as aluminum hardware, toys, kitchen utensil's and store furnishings began to appear on the market. In the Georgian SSR these goods were manufactured mostly by the Aircraft Plant #31 in Tbilisi which had been partly diverted to production of consumer goods. I obtained this information while ordering aluminum hardware for the Workers' ConsUmer Goods and Food Supply Sections of the enterprises in Georgia for iihich I worked, and I know that from the end of 1946 on the aluminum goods received on my orders were manufactured by the Aircraft Plant #31. 3. Prices of aluminum goods sold in the Georgian SSR after 1946 were rather low; aluminum hardware was sold at a cheaper price than enameled ware had been before World War II. As far as I remember, the prices were as follows: Article Price (in rubles) Sauce pan of two to three liters 15 Frying pan, 25 cm. in diameter 10 2i lit. teakettle 25 Teacup 2.50-3 SECRET SECURITY INFORMATION Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release @ 50-Yr 2013/05/28: CIA-RDP82-00046R000300010012-4 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release @ 50-Yr 2013/05/28: CIA-RDP82-00046R000300010012-4 SECRET ArticlI Price (in rubles) Wash basin, 50-60 am. in diameter approximately 30 Dinner plate 7-8 Aluminum plates shortly disappeared from the market, since there were not too many customers for them. When chinaware came on the market, people preferred to buy china or cheap porcelain rather than aluminum plates. I remember that aluminum goods manufactured by Plant #31 in Tbilisi bore a special trademark, but I am unable to remember what it was.
