1. I believe that the Russians want to take over the whole world. I
think that their next move will probably come in Asia, and that the
Third World War therefore will start in Asia and quickly spread to
the rest of the world, I believe that the West is stronger than the"
Soviet bloc, and would eventually win the war, but that at the start
the Russians would probably be able to occupy much of Western Europe.
2. I am also of the opinion that, the above being so, the Western coun-
tries should stage a Pearl Harbor-style blitz attack on Russia; the
sooner, the better. The longer it is delayed, the stronger the Rus-
sians will be. I think this because (a) as the Communists have more
time to work on the very young, from childhood onwards, the number
of convinced Communists will eventually increase, and (b) as the
years go by without any sign that the West will liberate the peoples
of Eastern Europe, many people who are now rejecting Communist ideas
will eventually give up and decide to go along with the regime as
active collaborators. Most people's patience is already worn pretty
thin.
3. I know about NATO and that it includeei most of the countries of Western
Europe. Source did? not think that it included Turkey, which he
believed was in a separate but related treaty organizatione I know
that West Germany does not have any army and assume that this is
because the French won't permit it yet. I know there are many Commu-
nists in France and Italy, but I do not regard Communist influence as
an important factor in French opposition to a German army,

4. I think that life in the soviet sphere is probably best, relatively
speaking, in East Germany, but that this is probably only because
the Russians are temporarily favoring the East Germans for foreign
political reasons. I do not believe that in the long run the Rus-
sians will treat the Germans any better than they have treated the
people of the other subject nations. Life is about the same in all
of the other Satellites -- neither better'nor worse than it'
Hungary.
5. It is my opinion that the Russians will never agree to withdraw
their troops from Hungary, regardless of what happens in Austria.
I think that the Russians will never agree to an Austrian treaty,
but, if they did, they would still find some excuse to leave their
troops in Hungary.
6. Further, I believe that if the Communist regime in Hungary were over-
thrown, the small and maybe the medium-sized businesses should be
returned to private ownership. I' think, however, that large busi-
nesses should remain in the hands of the state to serve the interests
of the whole nation. Before World War II a large part of the nation's
business was owned or controlled by foreign firms, and the present
share of the Hungarian economy controlled by the Russians is about
equal to the share held by foreigners before the war. I am sure
that Soviet control of these businesses has been more harmful to
the interests of the Hungarian people than the foreign control of
the prewar years. Nevertheless, I think that it would be best if
all firms could be owned and controlled only by Hungarians, as there
is inevitably some loss to the nation when part of the economy is
owned by foreigners sending their profits abroad.
7. I think that there are Hungarian emigres who are active in anti-
communist work, but I do not know who they are, or how numerous
they are, I do not believe that their activities are very important.
