Because of ? the special position of border troops as compared with the regular Army, and the hardships connected with the performance of border duty, the pay of border troop personnel was considerably higher than that of ?Army' personnel. There were six difrerent types of border troop allowances paid to Officer personnel and to NCO personnel on subsequent tours of duty, as follows:" . 10% of position pay (mostly on western USSR frontiers) b. 20% of position payAunknown areas) c, 25%,of position pay (Unknown areas) d. 35% of position pay (southeastern USSR frontiers, particularly the Turkmenian, Todzhik? and Kazakh Border Districts, and probably some 'others) 150% of position pay (Kamchatka and the Island of Sakhalin) 200% of position pay (KUrile Islands) e. Orderly Allowance The orderly allowance was standard for all border troop districts. It amounted to 300 rubles and was paid to: a.
