Pay of border troop personnel was determined by the MIT,D. Because of
? the special position of border troops as compared with the regular
Army, and the hardships connected with the performance of border duty,
the pay of border troop personnel was considerably higher than that of
?Army' personnel. In the USSR pay was always calculated on a monthly
'basis. Al]. amounts I shall mention are to be understood as monthly
AUms.
ALM
The pay of EN '(privates and corporals) was determined on the basis of
lensevity in the following way:
First year of service 30 rubles
Second and third years of service: 50 rubles
The same pay was also drawn by $00is as long is they served in
Wigs:sent' of either privates or corporals.

'Junior .sergeants, sergeants, senior sergeants and master sergeants

5. Officers' pay in border troop units was made up of six components
as follows:

every case was determined by the Chief Directorate Border. Troops...
There were six difrerent types of border troop allowances paid to
Officer personnel and to NCO personnel on subsequent tours of duty,
as follows:"
. 10% of position pay (mostly on western USSR frontiers)
b. 20% of position payAunknown areas)
c, 25%,of position pay (Unknown areas)
d. 35% of position pay (southeastern USSR frontiers, particularly
the Turkmenian, Todzhik? and Kazakh Border Districts, and probably
some 'others)
150% of position pay (Kamchatka and the Island of Sakhalin)
200% of position pay (KUrile Islands)

Orderly Allowance
The orderly allowance was standard for all border troop districts. It
amounted to 300 rubles and was paid to:
a. All line border troop officers.

Officer at 'border komendatura headquarters.
. CO, Deputy CO, Chief of Staff, Chief of Piret Department, Chiefs
of Second and Third Sections, Chief of Engineer Service, CO of
Dettchmentts Maneuver Group, Deputy CO of Maneuver Group, Platoon
Leaders, CO of Signal Company and Platoon Leaders of Signal Company
at 'border detachment headquarters.
d. _All border troop colonels regardless of their position.
.Subsistence
a. All border troop officers on duty with sastavy and komendatury
were entitled to one food ration. If desired, money could be
substituted for this food ration, in the amount of 200 rubles per
officer.

12. In accordance with the pay regulations have described, border troop
'officers serving with the Turkmenian Border District received the

13. Although the pay of border troop personnel was high,
deductions were also high. They were:
