Ukrainian SSR. When the Soviets reoccupied the Ukraine,
and tried to effect a new registration, almost all parents
declared their sons to be one to three years younger, in
order to keep them working and out of the army as long as
possible.

in January 1951
This training was nalipd "Preparation" ("Pod-
gotovka and was not known as "110 hours" 50X1
training. It consisted of close order drill, familiari-
zation with the M-I944 army carbine (firing three rounds).
This training was given by demobilized Soviet Army officers
in civilian clothes who worked for the voyenkomat.

In November 1952, the class of 1933 arrived in the Soviet
Zone of Germany. The class of 1934 arrived at the 68th
Gds Regt in November 1953.

k. Fifty EM were placed in a box car. The box car had three
tiers of boards, on which the men slept. There were no
mattresses or blankets. The cars were heated by small
stoves. Men were fed in the morning And at night at
stations bra mobile kitchen attached to the train. There
were no toilets in the EM cars, compelling EM to perform
their normal toilet functions during the day when the
train was on side tracks.

would leave a soldier as sole supporter of aged parents.
