Cellulose in sheet form and sulphide of carbon were used as basic raw materials. The cellulose was treated with caustic potash and after being pressed in hydraulic presses to the state of alkali cellulose, it was shredded. It was then placed into a "ripening room" where it remained in rotating tanks for several days at a temperature of about 250 C. The product was then dissolved in a solution of carbon bisulphate (CS2) in a vacuum. This liquid was compressed through platinum sieves into an acid bath (H2SO4) where the artificial silk fibers were formed. The fibers were then rinsed, twisted, dyed, and rewound. The thickness of the thread varied according to the number of fibers used; a thread could be made of from several to 300 fibers. ___3ECEET__ Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release @ 50-Yr 2013/06/07: CIA-RDP82-00046R000300200013-2 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release @ 50-Yr 2013/06/07: CIA-RDP82-00046R000300200013-2 "SECRET 50X1 The factory produced cellophane wrapping paper, called Tomofan and a synthetic fabric.(called artificial silk in Polish) which was used for shirts, women's dresses, and parachutes. 6.
