Berlin were ordered to dl~ g two trenches see attached sec o
T-34 tanks on the regimental training ground on the outskir s of
Berlin. We worked on these trenches for approximately two weeks.
The trenches were prepared according to the attached sketch: 31 mo
deep, 6 m. long, and 31 m. wide. On one side a ramp was prepared
fQr entering the trench. We were advised that such trenches would
be dug in a future war to protect tanks against atomic attack.
Following completion of this work lectures were given by the company
commanding officers on atomic warfare. The lecture lasted for an
hour, and I learned from the commanding officer that in case of an
atomic attack in the next war tanks would have to be moved into such
prepared trenches where they would be protected against the blast of50X1
atomic bombs.
I do not remember any other effects of atomic bombs
