2. In September 1953 all work on the canal had stopped and the
thousands of laborers previously employed were removed from the
sites-. only the dike at Capul Midia
5 44-21., E 213-417 was still under construction in late fall
of 1953.
Considering the investment and the years of propaganda con
cerning the canal, the project must have been abandoned only
because labor was urgently needed at more important sites.
It was rumored in Constants that the labor from the canal had
been transferred to the Aiud and Huedin uranium projects and
possibly also to the Bioaz approximately N.46-49, E 25-5''V
hydroelectric project.
