Description of Surroundings at Destination: 25X1
a, labor camp located in a hilly region. Camp

was by reindeer. the camp was only recently
built since workers still lived in tents. These workers were
probably penal laborers q since their earnings
here withheld and recorded in pay boo s. Although food was des-
cribed as excellent workers complained about insufficient vodka
rations. food was supplied by air- 25X1
drops every six months. Camp a no electricity. Illumination was
by kerosene lamps. few women around the camp; one 25X1

explosives were described as "Trotyl" (which looked like cakes of
soap) and "powder".
Camp administration was housed in a log cabin. 25X1
