The offices of the Soviet Trade Mission for Eastern Germany were located in Berlin on Brunnenstrasse. (At the present time it is rumored.that these offices have been moved to the Soviet Embassy building on Unter den Linden.) Near the USSR Trade Mission building on Brunnenstrasse were the offices of DERUTRA and DERUNAFT. The offices of Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga were located in the same building with DERUTRA. following way: a. Legal Section; Section Chief, Aleksandr VYZHANOV g. Accounting Office h. First (secret document) Section i. Real Estate Section. This section was in charge of several apartment houses belonging to the Soviet Trade Mission (sold to the Germans in mid-1951) and all hotels of INTURIST in East Germany. CONF;DF,T,AL DATE DISTR. 29. OF PAGES 2 Approved For Release 2009/06/15: CIA-RDP82-00046R000400200005-0 Approved For Release 2009/06/15: CIA-RDP82-00046R000400200005-0 CONFIDENTIAL - 2 - As in any other Soviet organization belonging to the Ministry of Foreign Trade, there were probably also the following sections: commercialifinance, planning, personnel, and administrative (AKhO). 3. Until the end of`1950 the personnel of the Berlin Trade Mission, DERUTRA, DERUNAFT, and Mezhdunarodnaya Kniga lived in apartment houses belonging to the Trade Mission located on an unidentified street opposite the building which housed the Central Committee of the German Communist Party. There were no special security controls for the inhabitants of these houses; no enclosures, no guards, and no pass system. When it was decided to sell these houses, all Soviet personnel were moved into several. apartment houses in Karishorst, a Soviet enclave surrounded by a wire fence with several rows of barbed wire on top. The only means of entrance into this area was by two gates guarded by Soviet Army guards armed with submachine guns. The rear part of the enclave was guarded by East German police and dogs stationed outside the wire fence. A pass was issued by the Karlshorst komendatura to each inhabitant of the Karlshorst enclave, and the pass had to be presented to the guard at the gate when entering and leaving the area. In 1951 the security regulations in Karlshorst were tightened upc a. Beginning in 1951 German servants were removed from the area and admittance to Germans was strictly prohibited. b. In mid-1951 persons billeted in Karlshorst were permitted to leave the enclave from 0600 to 2330 hours and to enter from 0600 to 2400 hours. Frop 2+00 t gates were closed to everybod 5.
