1. UNRRA aid for Czechoslovak agriculture was allocated to the Ministry
of Agriculture in the following ways:
a. Agricultural machinery and implements, and funds for the purchase
of such equipment, for distribution to communities, agricultural
cooperatives, and.individual farmers. This type of assistance
was stopped at the end of 1948.
b. Funds to be used for the rebuilding and development of Czechoslovak
agriculture as a whole. These funds were mainly used for develop-
ment of veterinary services and agricultural education. At the
end of 1947 there was a sum totalling 345,000,000 crowns to be
used for these two purposes.
2. After February 1948, large sums from these funds were used for
medical examinations of cattle.and swine and vaccination against
tuberculosis. This large project was in progress for several years.
Large sums of money were also used for building training centers
for the Ministry of Agriculture; these centers were supposedly for
advanced training but were used primarily for political schooling
and training in Communist methods of agriculture. This training
was not only for employees of .the Ministry of Agriculture but also
for those employed by other government agricultural administrations
and leading employees of uniform agricultural cooperatives and state
farms. Special one-year courses were also organized for reliable
Communists of the working class who were slated to occupy key
political positions within the administration. The Ministry of
Agriculture had a number of these training centers; the most important
were located in the following places:- Doksy (N 50-34, E 14-40),

. Kraliky (N 50-05, E 16-46). These centers were gradually
abolished and their functions were transferred to standard agri.-
cultural schools administered by regional national committees.
In 1953, only one training center remained under the direct control
of the Ministry of Agriculture, the center at Dolni Brezany, which
was used primarily for specialized advanced training in yak bu15'0,:
directing tractor and machinery pools, accounting practices for
uniform agricultural cooperatives, etc. UNRRA funds were used until
the end of 1950 when the government ordered the liquidation of
this program, and a financial account of these activities to be made,
and the remainder of the money be turned back to the Ministry of
Finance. The Ministry of Agriculture refunded about 6,500,000 crowns;
the funds which were administered by the regional national committees
were turned over to the Ministry of Finance directly by these
committees.
