NO. OF PAGES 1
1. In September 1953, when construction of the Danube-Black Sea canal
was abandoned, the 80 km. stretch from Capul Midia fN- 44.21, E 28-47
to Cernavoda ZN- 44-21, E 28-0 had been dug to a depth of one meter.
The planned depth had been 7.0 m. Priority had been given to the
construction of installations at Midia and Cernavoda, with the digging
of the canal ditch to be left until the last, because of its simpler
construction." In spite of the fact that five years had been spent on
the construction of the canal, no part of it was completed.
2. Although Source knew of no new canal projects, rumors circulated from
time to time that a pre-World War II canal project would be reactivated,
namely, a canal to run from the Dambovita River at Bucharest to the
Danube, thus making Bucharest a port.
