THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
1. Amuroyakutskaya Magistral, one of the principal roads in the Yakutsk
Autonomous Republic. It had.a dirt surface, was six meters wide with
ditches 0.5 m. deep on both sides. Described as very rough, with
very difficult passage during spring; in the winter, snow drifts
occurred. Trucks had to wait for snow plows to clear the road.
This road, led south to Bol'shoy Never (N 53-59, E 124-10).
2. Aldan (N 58-37, E 125-24), a town with approximatply. 8,000 to 9,000
inhabitants, most of whom, were employed in the gold mining industry.
All houses were built of wood and. the street surfaces were dirt.
There was no underground sewage system. A small militia force
kept order in this town. Many of the inhabitants were paroled
forced laborers who were resettled here. These people were issued
no passports, only temporary passes. Documents were sometimes
checked in the street'sby members of the MVD troops. No house-to-
.house checks occurred.

1. The explosives dump area's a roximate boundary is indicated by the
broken line. the size to be two by two kilometerQ-
The ground was sampled at -10 different points and was found to 25X1
be excellent for construction purposes. storage25X1
chambers were to be constructed underground; number and dispersion
unknown.
2. Electrical substation area measured 500 x 500 in. No further
information.
3. A road which was to link the explosives dump with the Amuroyakutskaya
Magistral,(Point 1, page 4.) Its distance was approximately six
kilometers. Projected width and surface are unknown.
4. The guard house area which was approximately 200 x 200 in. No
further informatbn.
General Information
3. The construction site was located 18 to 20 km. south of Aldan. Only 25X1
surveying work was done in.August 1953.
the actual construction was to begin in the early part' 25X1
this was to become the main explosives dump
for the Aldan area and that explosives stored here would be used for
mining purposes.onl?y.?i he construction of.a new explosives
dump was requested and sponsored. y the Yakutzolot Trust located in 25X1
Aldan. The labor force consisted of 30 persons, seven of whom were
surveying specialists including two women; the specialists were sent
from Aldan. All were very young (born in 1930-31)and seemed competent,
with the exception of the two girls who lacked experience. The work.
was accomplished in one 10-hour shift a day. All members of this
surveying team lived nearby in tents.
