close to fifty years, were F___]present.
the men were not processed in a body but at an assigned time
throughout a two-day period. MEZ employed 25X1
approximately 2,500 men and women. out o this total., about 500 to
700 were females. Approximately three-fourths of the males were in
the 25-30 age group and the. remainder were over 30 years.
An introductory 'pep talk was given to those present by Misarek
(fnu), who was superintendent.of the Vsetin elementary school and
an official of the local or district national committee. He was
formerly a member of the Social. Democratic Party and became an
active Communist who was often called upon to give speeches at Party
meetings. Misarek told them that it was necessary that the older
male population with no previous military service be trained in
handling weapons in order to know how to protect themselves against
paratroopers who might be dropped in Czechoslovakia in case of war.
After this.speech, the group started processing. At the first station
they were given blood pressure tests by two civilian females and
also-received a bottle for urinalysis. At the next station their
names and some'tpersonal data were noted. 125X1

After thidA two civilian doctors checked each
individual for TB and heart trouble and asked whether he had any other

army officer (details
of rank and uniform unknown) handed Military Book
with instructions to notify the nearest military headquarters when
leaving his residence for a long period of time or when travelling
to foreign countries. He was also admonished not to lose the
Military Book.
the Military Book contained only
his name and a few other personal data (exact details unknown and
his physical classification
ere were no entries pertaining to
the unit to which he was assigned, duties which he was to erform,
or type of training he was to receive.
(military training of
reservists from MEZ was to be conducted at Zdechov (N 49-16,
E 18-04) after normal workin hours. (The MEZ plant operated
between 0600 and 1400 hours.) Men were to be transported there
by trucks. No one ever mentioned the type or amount of military
training that was to be given, type of weapons that were to be
used, when training was to commence, and who was to conduct it.
was a nation-wide practice to ca 1 all men below the age o 1
years who were not yet registered, to register at draft boards.
Had this not been the case and should such a conscription have
taken place only in Vaetin or even only at MEZ Vsetin
it would have caused much more public attention than it aid.
