Canal - Same as Point 2, on Overlay'(see page 4.) 2. Bridge - 12-15 m. long, driveway six meters wide, asphalt paved, one meter wide sidewalks on both sides, with 1.5 m. high iron railings. The bridge was of concrete arch type construction, with concrete abutments. No load capacity, signs on either end. 3. House.- stone, single storied, tile gable roof. An MOB (then) Senior Lieutenant resided here. He wore an Army uniform with tank insignia. Traveled to Baden daily in a staff car with driver. Whenever thefts occurred in the casernes he investi- gated. the matter. Soldiers called him a "snooper;'. 4. Two Buildings - identical, red brick, 25 m. x 1.5 m. x.15 in., gable tile roofs. a. Club on both floors. well as officers frequented the club. Radio School - Classes in elementary principles of radio were conducted here.. Recruits were sent to this school upon reporting to the unit. Duration of the course was one 25X1 year. On the average 70 soldiers were intone class. After graduation of a cl8.ss,a.new one was started. This was the Battalion Radio School. After completion of school, soldiers were sent out to various companies. Students were billeted on the second floor. The class e6,ofl2s ,were 'on' the'first floor. The area; of,'these two buildings was-enclosed by a mesh wire fence tapped with barbed wire.... Four Buildings - identical. ?.brick, plastered, 35m x 12m x 15m, two-storied, tile gable roof. The buildings appeared to.be of old construction. a. Quarters for Enlisted Personnel - approximately 150 soldiers were billeted in this building. Aside from the headquarters company, the second company of the 135th Battalion was quartered here. CQ. was on duty at night. b. Battalion Headquarters - Both floors were made up of offices. On the first floor there were offices for the CQ, supply, ordnance officers, receiving center of the second company, and for the motor pool officer. On the second floor there were offices for the communications officer, political officer, commanding officer, secret control, (all classified' information was kept in safes), and for finance. At night a CQ was in charge of the building. c. Enlisted Mess Hall - Mess hall was on the first floor. Second floor was occupied by bachelor officert~ quarters. d. Officerg&a Quarters - Married officers and their families lived here. The building was separated from the others by a wooden fence. Asmall gate led into enclosure from the east. Gate was always looked. A door in the inner wooden fence was used by officers and their dependents,, and was always open. The entire area of this portion of the caserne measured 200m x 150, and was enclosed with a mesh wire fence topped with barbed wire. A wooden gate led into caserne from the north. During the day, an unarmed soldier was stationed in a small shack near the gate. Theoretically identifications of military personnel were to be o1ecked, but such practice had been neglected by guards. Only when the sergeant of, the guard was in the vicinity did the guards become strict.' Three Identical Buildings - brick, plastered, exact dimensions not recalled, gable tarpaper roof. Radio Repair Shop - All radio apparatus of the unit were repaired, here by a crew of five technicians. In case a radar set was reported defective, a crew of technicians was sent out to repair, it . one or two new radar sets 25X1 were kept 'on hand u ng Poin.). They were crated, Crates were painted green. An armed 25X1 guard patrolled this building at night. b.' Storage - All kinds of electrical equipment, such as, field telephones, cables, batteries, eto.',were kept here. C. ~or~h=o le - Four horses were kept here es were u se y un s is at oned in a mountainous area. Garage - 70 X 12 X.l9-12m, brick, single,oicoried, gable tarpaper covered roof. The building was subdivided into four sections: a. Truck Repair Shop - vehicles in need of repair ere.brought here. A ei?c mf mechanics was assigned to this section. trucks were often in need of repairs. b. Arms and Ammunition Room - Ammunition for rifles and sub- machine guns,,,grenades, and several old submachine guns were stored here. This was the Battalion Headquarters ammunition room, c. Garage - six trucks which belonged to the unit were parked here. Trucks were dispatched on request. Two "Willyf!!" vehicles were parked'in the open near the buildingi d. Transmitting Center of the 2nd Company - three soldiers were on;duty here 24 hours'. Only authorized personnel were admitted to this center. The garage was patrolled day And night by an armed guard. Two Buildings - identical, 8 x 8m, single-storied, brick, gable tarpaper roof. a. Storage Shack - empty b. Blacksmith's Shop - seldom used. Two'Building5 - identical, brink, single-storied, tarpaper roof. a. Storage Building - coal and wood were stored in this building. b. Fuel Dump - gasoline for trucks was stored in barrels (300 lit.). 2. The entire area containing points six through nine was called "Avtopark", and was enclosed with a two-meter-high barbed wire fence. The gate which was located on the north side of the depot was always looked. The road leading to the depot was six meters wide,.gravel, no ditches. a gun powder factory was formerly located here and 25X1 partially blown up after the war by Soviet troops, There were several demolished buildings along the southern part of the enclosure. SECRET. Wiener Neustadt, 1. Road - 6-7m wide, paved, one of,the principal roads in the area. The road led north to Vienna. 2. Canal '- 12m wide, ''earthen banks, concrete reinforcements near bridges, slow northeast current. "Quite often" the canal did not carry any water at all. the'depth to be four meters. Blumau - Small Austrian settlement. The main street was asphalt paved. 4.
