2. The regiment had had one cadre battalion of about 150 officers and 70 EM and one
infantry battalion Both of these had been deactivated under
orders from the Ministry of National Defense issued about October 1953. At that
time, the two heavy tank battalions had been reduced from four platoons and four
tanks per company to their present strength. More than half of their officers and
EM had been reassigned to various other units of the regiment and to other (unknown)

military units. Prior to the deactivation of these two battalions and the reduction
of the strength of the heavy tank battalion, the regimental strength had been
about 400 officers and 2,400 EM,
3. In November and December of each year, the regiment activated a temporary composite
recruit battalion. During the 1953 -.54 year, this battalion consisted of about six
officers and 700 recruits,1 When recruits had completed their basic training and
taken the oath of service in January or February, the batallion was deactivated. The
recruits were then reassigned to various regimental units for further training or
sent to various EM schools for training as tank drivers, mechanics, signalmen, QM
specialists, and infantrymen. Such training usually lasted from six to eight months.

with 122 - mm guns. The medium tank battalion of the same regiment had an unknown
number of T34/85 tanks.
