During the first three days of the exercise, at which time the oppos-
ing forces were supposedly some distance away and slowly approaching
their positions company selected, dug, and camouflaged. tree- 25X1
ches and gun emplacements, and parked and camouflaged the vehicles .in
a nearby wooded area.
Contact was made with the enemy forces during the fourth day. 25X1
advancing forces. On one occasion the enemy forces used smoke pots
to simulate a gas attack. During the hours of darkness, both formes
sent out combat and reconnaissance patrols and often attempted to cap-
ture prisoners. Blackouts were practid during the hours of darkness.
On the fifth day company withdrew from their defensive 25X1
positions on orders and used vehicles to move and occupy previously
selected and prepared positions several kilometers to their rear.
On the sixth day, the enemy utilized about 25 PAP planes,which were
described as single-engine fighters and twin-engine bombers, an.d.sim-
ulated an air attack by dropping powder-filled bags on the defending
troops.
