1. Wooden Bridge - Only-for:pedestrians, 12 in x 2m, approximately
two meters above water level. Approximately 1,500 people crossed
the bridge daily.
2. Administrative Building - Framework construction, completed in the
fall of 1954. Scheduled to be put into operation in the spring of
1955. Three-story brick construction, 40 m x 25 m x 10 in, flat
roof, believed to be covered with Sheet metal.
3. Industrial Police Guard Building - Contained the time clock. Wooden
barracks, type building, 8mx5mx4 m, low pitched gable roof
covered with tarpaper. There were two to four guards in the guard
building on 24--hour duty.
4. Production 'Hall - Products produced unknown. Framework construct-
ion completed in the fall of 1954. Scheduled to be in operation
in 1956. It was a single-story brick construction, 90 in x 45 m x
15?m, sawtooth type roof with skylights. Roof was covered with
corrugated sheet metal. There were two rows of reinforced con-
crete pillars and two overhead traveling cranes. (See page 13,
memory sketch of overhead traveling crane) Lifting capacity of
cranes was unknown to source.
5. Building - Same type construction as Point 4. No further inform-
ation.
6. Gravel Road - Eight meters wide.
Rawa River - Three meters wide at the water level, 1 - l in deep,
flowing in a cobblestone paved channel and banks. Sewage and waste
from many factories emptied into this river.
8. Wire Production Ball - Brick construction, 80 m x 35 in. Two story
on east side, approximately 10 m high; one story, on the west side
and approximately 7.5 m high. The roof of the west side was saw-
tooth,sheet metal covered, with skylights. The roof of the east
side was A barrel vault type. There were two rows of reinforced
concrete pillars with two overhead traveling cranes with 2,000 kg
lifting capacity. Offices were located on the second floor of the
building. -
9. Electrode Production Hall - Single story, brick construction, 40 x
25 m x 6 in, The dimensions of the south wing were 15 in x 10 m.
The dimensions of the south wing were 15 m x 10 m. Low pitched
gable roof covered with tarpaper. Interior of hall was divided
into separate work shops. Offices were located in the south wing.
Approximately 160 workers; two eight-hour shifts.
10. Fire House - Barrack type, wood and brick construction, 15 in x 7 in
x 4 m flat roof covered with tarpaper. Building cantained one
office, standby quarters for firemen, and two garages. The fire
brigade consisted of 26 men. Two 12-hour shifts, 13 men to ?a shift.
Two fire engines of an old type were located in the garages.
11. Book Binding Shop - Single story, brick construction, 7 in x 3.5 m
x 4 in, flat roof believed to be covered with tarpaper. There
were three women employed in this shop working one eight-hour shift.
12. Assembly Hall and Precision Work Shop - Barrack type, wooden con-
struction, 40 m x 18 m x 5 m, low pitched gable roof covered with
tarpaper. The precision work shop was located in the north section

of this building. There were eight to ten workers employed in the
precision work shop; one eight-hour shift.
13. Refreshment Stand - Wooden, 3mx3mx4 m, flat roof covered with
tarpaper.
14. Hard Metal. Turning and Polishing Hall - "L" shaped, two-story, brick
constructiom The length of the east side was 40 m, and the length
of the south-end of building was 30 m. The west wing was 15 m long,
and 14 in wide. Low pitched gable roof covered with tarpaper. Turn-
im&-and grinding shops and storages located on the first floor;
turning andgrinding shops and offices on the second floor. There
were 15 office employees working one eight-hour shift and approx-
imately 165 employees in the turning and grinding shops working
three eight-hour shifts.
15. Milk Bar - New two-story brick construction. Frames completed in
December 1954 scheduled to be put in operation in the spring of
19550 Flat roof-covered with sheet metal.
16. Administration Building - Single-story, "E" shaped, brick constrUc-
_tior1,60 m x 60 m x 5 m, low pitched gable roof covered with tar-
paper-. The following offices and establishments were located in
this building:
a. Plant radio and microphone station.
b. Central office for mechanical repairs.
c. Technological offices responsible for steel smelting
proce s (Dzial Technologiia'zetworczej).
d. Technological offices responsible for steel plant.,
products (Dzial Technologii Wytworow Hutniczych)
e. Offices responsible for plant repairs,including
financing,and.executing the repairs.
f. Blueprint office.
g. Plant's production planning offices (Dzial Planowania
Produkcii HUtniczej i Dzial Planowania Produkcii Prze-
tworczej). There were 200 - 250 employees working in
one eight-hour shift.
17. Administration Building - New, two-story, brick construction,
45 m x 20 m x 7 rn. Frame completed in December 1954. Scheduled
to be put into operation in March 1955. Gable type roof ccvered
with red tile. Sorri of the offices from Administration Building,
Point 16, were supposed to be moved to this building.
18. New Construction - Single-story building, built on 4 m high re-
inforced concrete pillarE, The building,40 m x 40 m x 6 mowas
constructed of red brick with small square windows. There was
no roof on the building and source stated that additional con-
struction was possible-. The building wa scheduled to be put
Into operation in 1955. The purpose of the building was unknown
to source.

of this barracks and in the other two barracks.
2. Barracks Nearing Completion in DeceMber 1954,--Brick construction,
30 in x 15 m x 4.m, low pitched gable roof covered with tarpaper. This
? -building was to be utilized for offices.
Cooling Tower - Iron-wood construction, octahedron shape 20 in high,
..14m in diameter, old, not 1n use.
Bridge - Stone construction, 10 m x 9 m, two meters over the water level.
5. Research Laboratories - Brick construction, 100 m x 12 mo two-story,.
seven meters high on north side; one-story,5.5 m.high on south side.
The root of the north section was a gable type covered with red tile.
South section roof was a low gable type covered with tarpaper. North
Section contained offices and laboratories, and the south section con-
tained laboratory work 'shops The employees worked one eight-hour
shift, but there was a standby'arew 24 hours a day.
Wire Fence Had concrete posts; was two meters high and painted red.

mechanical repairs were performed in this building. Approximately 160
workers, two eight-hour shifts. There was an emefgency crew 24 hours
a day.
Nursery - Barracks, brick construction, 40 m x 12 in x 5 in, Low gable

training office, and investment office were located in this building..
* Plant Employees Living Quarters -'Single-story.brick construction,
12 in x 8 m; flat roof covered with tarpaper. Two families lived in
this building.
1. Coal Storehouse - 35 in x 12 in x 4 in, single-story brick construction
with three walls. The south side of the building had no wall. Low
gable roof covered with tarpaper. Belt conveyors in the cellar of the
building transported coal underground to the boiler room. Some type of
electrical device was used to empty the coal cars.

Soiler Room - 40 in x 18 m x 22 in, The lower two-thirds of the build-
ing was of brisk construction, the upper third of..steel and glass. Low
rpitched gable roof covered with tarpaper. First floor contained seven
or eight rectangular boilers, three to four meters high and two meters
wide. Three new type boilers, four to five meters high, were located
on the upper floor. Two of the new type boilers were in operation,

Ind the third was to be put into operation after all new workshops
were completed. A coal belt conveyor led to the upper floor. There
were 120-150 employees working in three eight-hour shifts.
Plant Workers Living Quarters - Two-story brick construction, 18 in x
-8 in, high gable roof covered with tarpaper. Six families livedin
this building.
Building - Single-story brick construction, 12mx6mx4 m, roof
construction unknown. Offices were located on the first floor, and
seven to eight machines were in the cellar of the building. Source
stated? that this building was connected with the boiler room. He
believed the machines to be steam pumps and compressors.

External Oyerhead Traveling Cranes - Two cranes, 10,000 kg lifting
Capacity each. Main storage area for steel ingots was in this area also.

97, Electrical Equipment Repair Shop - Single-story brick construction,
38 m x 15 m x 6 in, low gable roof covered with tarpaper. The employees
worked one eight-hour shift. A standby crew was on duty 24 hours a day.
D.8. shop for Hot-Working Processes - Brick construction, 55 m X 55 in x,,12 in,
roof unknown. The inside of,the building was divided into three halls.
There" were gas furnaces and soaking. pits in each hall, 900-1,100
employees worked here in three eight-hour Shifts.
D9? Mechanical Shop - Brick construction, 65 in x 55 in x'12 in. The dim-
ehsicinb of the west wing were 25 in x'10 in. Monitor roof, with window
Openings and covered with tarpaper. The building was divided into work
halls. Each hall had two overhead traveling cranes with a lifting
capacity of 10,000 kg each. This shop produced small Aircraft engine
parts, but Source was unable to identify them.: No further information.

believed that this building Was without windows.
101. Shop Producing Bores - Single-story brick construction, 45 m x 40
The height of the buildins ranged from six meters to ten meters.
Roof type unknown. Approximately 600 employees worked here in three
eight-hour shifts.
102. Workshop for Magnetic Steel-Single-storylrbk construction, 40 m x 15 p.
x 9 m, gable roof covered with tarpaper. Three to four soaking pits
and 35-40 machines were located in this shop.- Magnetic blocks and
screws were produced here'. Approximately 180 employees worked here
In three eight-hour shifts.
103. Office Responsible for Billet Storage - Single-story brick construc-
tion, 8mx7mx7 in, low gable roof covered with tarpaper.
104. Stone and Metal Milling Shop - Single-story brick, 55 m x 25 in x 10 m,
gable roof covered with tarpaper; 30-40 workers were employed in
this shop.
105. External Overhead Traveling Crane and Metal Scrap Storage Area.... There
were two .cranes;' one was an electro-magnetic type. Lifting capacity
was unknown to source.
106. Railroad Tracks - Loading and unloading area for railroad cars.
Traffic was always heavy.
107. Steel Smelfino Shop - Two-story brick construction, 25m high, roof
type unkmrn. Approximately 1,100 employees worked here in three
eight-hour shifts. This shop was in operation seVen days a week,

20. Plate Rolling Mill - Two buildings connected by an open gable roofed
corridor. North building was 60 m x 40 m_x 11 in, south building was
60 in x 60 m x 15 in. Roof construction unknown. Source stated that
one of the furnaces in this shop was a Swedish ASEA furnace. 700-
800 employees worked here in three eight-hour shifts. This mill con-
sisted of the hot rolling shop and the cold rolling shop. Armor
plates for tanks and ships and sheet metal plating used for cover-
? ing jet aircraft fuselages and wings were produced in this mill. The
dimensions of the sheet metal plates were 1.25 in x 1 in, The thick-
ness ranged from one millimeter to three millimeters. The plates'
surfaces were smooth but appeared to be scaly (fish scales).

.12. Two External Overhead Traveling Cranes - Lifting capacity 10,000 kg
each. They were used for storing and loading the finished products

General Information:
The Baildon Steel Works, officially known as Plant H-123, did not handle
iron ore. It received iron and poor quality steel from other steel plants
(Batory And Kosciuszko steel plants in Chorzow, Pokoj:Steel Plant in Nowy
Bytom, Labedy Steel Plant in Labedy, Katerzyna Steel Plant in Dabrowa
Gornicza) and produced high quality steel. It produced 550-650 different
types of steel.
The steel works was powered by electricity and steam. Electricity was

received from the power station in Laziska Gorne through a substation
in Stalinogrod (Katowice).
It operated six days a week; three eight-hour Shifts Mondays through
Fridays and one six-hour shift Saturdays.
6. Production figures were unknown to source although he stated that 80%
of the_production was for the military. Almost all of it went to Krasnik
(N 50-55, E 22-13). Krasnik was supposed to have large assembly plants.
7. From 1 January 1954 to 30 September 19541 there was a 13,000,000 zloty
(based on the value of the prewar zloty) loss in disqualified steel
production. Only one other steel plant in Poland had a large loss dur-
ing this period. Source could not identify theother steel plant.
8. The Baildon Steel Works employed 8,400 workers, including 1,350 white?
collar workers and 7,050 skilled and unskilled laborers. Source stated
that a further extension of the steel mill was in the planning stage.
