1.
2. The plant had about 150 employees, about 100 of whom were members of
the Labor Troops Brigade. All other employees were civilians and
were primarily mechanics and auto repair specialists. These
civilians received salaries of 500 to 800 leva per month. All
Trudovaks and civilian employees worked for eight hours a day. Monday
through Saturday.
3. The plantl, did, general mechanical repair on government military and
civilian vehicles. Most of the trucks repaired were three, five,
and six-ton trucks, models ZIS-1500 Renault, or Opel Blitz. At
all timed, there were from 30 to 40 trucks undergoing repair at the
plant.
k. The workshops were well-equipped with the necessary machinery. Although
the civilian employees were interested in their job, the Trudovaks
were not. The Trudovaks received,a salary of two leva a.month and
regarded their work there as more of a slave labor institution than
anything else. The plant had no training programs for the mechanics
Tar any military training for the Trudovaks.
5. Source considered the repair work done at Gorna Belly& to be efficient
and the mechanics good in 'spite of the lack:of spare parts through-
out Bulgaria. This shortage was never corrected and the Bulgarian
Government imported no parts from other countries because of the
foreign exchange. The Bulgarian production of these parts was slow
and, therefore, delays resulted.
