Both radios used the Kulikov Whip type antenna which was about 170 vm long. The antenna consisted of connected duro-aluminum rings wrapped around a pliable metal rod. Both the R106 and the R105 could also utilize 25X1 a di ole ant n a di p e n , accor ng to the instructor. 2. The R105 was reported to have a range of five kilometers when using the Kulikov whip type antenna and a range of 15 kilometers when using the dipole antenna. 3. The R106 was reported to have a range of three kilometers when using the Kulikov whip type antenna and a range of 10 km when using the dipole antenna. 4. The weight of the R105 was about 20 kg, of the R106 about 10 kg full loaded . Both-,the R105 and R106 were ultra high frequency radios. both had a fixed frequency. 5. The R106 had only two tubes. tyn unknoin_ the r os wos.ed well there was even a slight hill or obstruction. Yet' he radios were reported to work well in a thickly wooded area . any o sets, but were a new issue to units that Dreviously had no radios. 1.. However, some of the units that had received these radios had been using borrowed RBM-l's temporarily, for training exercises, :;o tide them over until the allegedly new radios appeared.
