The sUpply depots (food rations, clothing and equipment, chemical and ammunition) _ _ , of the 57th Gds Rifle Div were located in NauMburg LA sketch of the supply depots is attached as Enclosure 031.17. The signal supply depot, hoWever, was located at llota. Weapon and ammunition supplies or the local depots of the 57th Gds RifIoxi Div were brought from the 8th G4 Army depot in Altenhain. . I do not know bow Pfteri amMunition is brought from army to division, but I believe it is done whe]50X1 supplies run loft. The allocations for a year's training was 20 thousand rounds of 50X1 , , M rifle-MG ammunition and 12 thousand rounds of pistol-SMG ammunition. 2. Tbe_artillery depot of the 8th Gds Army near Altenhain LE sketch of the area is attached as Enclosure (B17, occupies a wooded area two or three kilometers by one to two kilometers, approximately 11 kilometers from the town. I saw there about 70 underground bunkers Lfoints Do Enclosure (B17 where ammunition and 'weapons were stored. The bunkers are made of stone and are covered with earth overgrown with trees; I believe these bunkers are pre-World War II German installations. A narrow-gauge railroad named "MotovOzn leads into the storage area which is enclosed by a barbed wire fence two meters hig.t. A separately fenced area in the depot contains a one-story stone building ipoint A, Enclosure (B)7 which serves as a mess hall for the 200 German employees (mostly female) who work on assembly, dis- assembly, cleaning and packing of weapons and ammunition. The German workers are not allowed in the depot proper except when working. I believe the segregation tbr security reasons and to prevent fraternization. Also contained in a special- ly fenced area are 11 barracks ifoint B, Enclosure (1217 next to the mess hall area, where an unknown number of QM and guards troops are stationed, r know nothing more about these troops. The supply area is strictly guarded I saw searchlights lighting the sky at night and I heard from troops stationed at the depot tlok-"Set planes from an airbase 20km's away are used to guard the depot. I do not knaw the name of the airbase. 3. I do not know whether the Soviet Army has a definite plan concerning the displace- ment of supply dumps toward the West prior to any hostile action. Neither do I know what stock must be on hand in sup*y installations before the Soviet Armed Forces would be co itted to combat.
