Preinduction training is giveno Every year a training cycle of 110 hours of
training is offered to those youths who will be inducted into the Saviet Army
within tkie newt yearD At the age of 16 yearag every youth has to register with.

in the local passport aeration of the police (militia) and that information is

papers on the youth which it then hands over to the new loo al draft board, A
letter is sent to the youth after his 16th birthday telling him to report for a
preinductiorx physical examinations If the medical examination is successfully
paaaed9 the prea.nductee must undergo preinduction military training prior to his
oallupo
The time for such training is left up to the local .draft boardD depending
largely upon when it will have the facilitiea9 instruetoraA etcg availablea At
any events it will be given yearly and usually at a time when the people are
least-occupied with field work or the harvest. Preinduetion training is esompoaed

the-4th Section. The 4th Section of the Vayenkomat has been abolished howevars

Preinduotion training includes: physical education (usually in the morning)
military courtesy, weapons assembly., markamanahipfl tactics? etoo Training aide
will include one rifle or automatic pistol for each, lb to 20 students; one
practice grenade; models of light and heavy machine guns; and posters showing
other types of equipmento
Preinduoteea wear civilian clothing during the entire period of training? They
also must provide their own food for the entire period as well as their tran~-
portation to and from the training paint. Moreover9 they are not paid for

There is no special program far night traininga Soldiers sleep during the day

Privates serve three years in the Soviet ~-rmy; noncommissioned officersa four;

and thou select ones are sent to a regimental training school far noncommissioned

return to their original unit as sergeants and help train the privates for their

Each branch of the Army has its awn officer training schools and higher
acsademies for advanced training in that particular arm or serviced officer
candidates attend a three year courses and graduate as junior lieutenants or
lioutenantso Following thisA the officers are assigned to tactical units
where they serve as platoon and company commanders in the field (occasionally
even as battalion commanders) befo~^e being returned to a Branch academy for
