28th Ordnance Depot (28-oy Artilleriyskiy Sklad)9 =One of
the principal ordnance depots in the Soviet Union, and as such
was directly controlled by Moscow.
2e This depot was located about one or two kilometers north of
Karachev and covered an area of about four by 1j to two kma
it served as a storage
area, and as a place for assembling ammunition in sizes ranging
from rifle cartridges to 152 mm artillery shells. This same
depot was used by the Germans during their occupation of this
section, and was not damaged by warn there were
also underground stores of chemical goods and aerial bombs C
