According to .~'rague radio broadcasts on 16 l~lar 52, the Union of
Czcchoslova?~ ~'~,rmers (JednotnY avaz Ceskych Zemedelcu _ JSCZ)
was-liquidated. the reason that this organiz-
ation was 1i:suidated was because it had fulfilled the main purpose
for which it was created in 19t~5? It was a kind of agricultural
.trade union, an organization of sma11 and medium land ownersa After
i~arld vJar II this organization was instrumental in recruiting a sub
stantial number of tYi~se /~.~nd owners for t~~e very Moderate Communist
program which preceded thc~'~ommunist coupe Cort~munists had infil-
trated the union and in the last free elections in Czechoslovakia,
in the Spring o? 197, the CP captured more votes among the farmers
than among the urban voters, Shortly after the coup, however, when
the Communists launched their vigorous collectivization program,
JSCZ rapidly bega~~ to lose its importance to the Partyo JSCZ was
