vatory (Csillagvizsgalo point 2, Encl (Anear Budakeszi
at Swabhegy. This was the highest point (F72 m) in the
vicinity of Budapest. The construction of the institute was
completed by the end of 1950; it was well equipped with all
the necessary instruments which had been imported from
Germany, England, and the United States. The public in
general knew very little about this place.

passes were admitted. Research in atomic physics was
conducted by a staff of about 20 physicists., mostly younger
scientists. T'e Institute was directed by Dr Istvan Kovacs,
Professor of Theoretical Physics, who was the Director of
the department before it was moved. It is possible that
Dr Szelenyi and Dr Sandor also worked at Swabhegy. The
laboratory-was about 20 minutes from the Eoetvoes Lorand
University, and the employees we'e taken to work in govern-
ment busses?
