Many divisions and departments of the new Klement Gottwald Metallurgical Works in KUncice are still under construction and only the following are in operation at the present time:, the main power plant (partial operation), the rolling mill which produces various sizes of steel thbes? the steel mill and blast furnaces which operate in three shifts. 2. The plant make, tubes of 20 centimeter diameter at the rate of seven freight- car loads during each 24-hour period. All of the tubes are marked for export to the USSR. 3. The power plant supplies electricity for all the divisions and departme ,s in operation. Equipment for the power plant and transformer station was built by the Electrical Works in Prague. The plans for the complete electrical net- work are kept in the main office of the power plant and the key to this office is in the possession of Mr (fnu) Bradac, chief of the Electrical Works in Prague who is probably an engineer supervising plant construction workers, Coal is supplied by the OKD mines in Ostrava and water by the plant'e awn voter works, The director te 50X1 there are soot 50X1 lu?vvy worxers including construction personnel, at the plant at the present time, only a small portion of the employees are Communist Party members as the majority is hostile to the Party and does not attend meet- ings. Although CP propaganda efforts which are broadcast over the plaat,s 50X1 public address system are very strong, employees are highly dissatisfied and hope for an early change in the political situation. In May 1952 the explosion of a Martin furnace was explained as sabotage on the part of the employees. 5.
