The Znojmo Branch had a serious shortage of cement and roofing material. The &iall:y of cement came from Horni Srni in Slovakia. The main warehouse of the Znoimo Branch is located in Znojmo. The following material was stored in this warehouse: cement, lime, brick, tiles, and insulation materials. 9. The workers do not conceal their general dissatisfaction with the low wages. Often workers were required to work on jobs as far as 30 to 40 km from home, without obtaining any compensation for traveling expense. The workers are also supposed to pay for their room and board from their wages. 10. Younger workers are accommodated in special boarding houses, where they receive political instruction. 11. The following are projeets which have been carried out or begun by the Znoimo Branch: (a) The Mbtorpal plant in Znojmo. Construction of this plant was begun in October 1950. Originally, this plant was intended to be a fruit and vegetable canning factory but the plans were changed at the last moment, and it was announced that it would be a heavy machinery plant. Although this factory has not yet begun production, the manage- ment is hiring as many workers as possible, mainly machine tool workers, electricians, etc. Eight hundred people are estimated to work in this factory. (b) Construction project for the agricultural cooperative in Hrusovany nad Jeviskou. The construction consisted of two large buildings, each built to house eight hundred pigs, and two large sheds for calves, each built to house two hundred head. These buildings were built of brick and had tile roofs. (c) Twenty-four houses in Zermanice. Between April and August of 1952 the Znojmo Branch was required to complete the construction of these houses, which were to serve as living quarters for people who lost their homes because of the construction of a dam which was being built in the vicinity. Each house was designed for two families. Approx- imately 200 workers were sent to complete this job. (d) A military airport between the villages of Studenka and Butovice. The construction of this airport was begun in 1951. The area Of the airport was 25 hectares. The surface was leveled, and covered with a layer of stone. It is believed that this airport will be a large one, and that the airport now operating in Rrabukky, near Ostrava, will be transferred here.
