The Bolshevik Machine Plant is located on the "Brest-Litovsk Chausee" and is approximately five kilometers from the center of Kiev and about two kilometers from the Kiev Polytechnical Institute. 2. The entire establishment, including freight and storage yards, occupies approximately four square kilometers. 3. The bulk of the buildings is constructed of steel-reinforced concrete and brick, the walls of which are about 0.5 Meters, or 24 bricks, in thickness. I cannot state exactly how many buildings there are, but there were over 20 (1935 to 1937) The entire area is surrounded by a.1.8 meters high fence, built of furnace slag _ and cement. 4. Principal products manufactured at this plant (1935-1937) were: a. Stationary steam engines up to 600 p.s. (h.p.). b. Steam pressure kettles h-220 up to 500 square meters working pressure, p-13 to 15 atmospheres. c. Steam condensing and vacuum equipment for chemical and sugar industries. d. Pumps (piston and diaphragm type) e. Filtering equipment for chemical and sugar industries (of 100 square meter pressure in one aggregate) f. Centrifugal equipment for sugar and graphite industries (without electric motors). This factory also had a large and modern mechanical and metallurgical laboratory. 6. Normal employment was about seven thousand persons. The principal manufacturing of the Krasnyy Excavator Plant consisted of road building machinery; machinery for building construction, such as scrapers, bulldozers, and carryalls; and mechanical carriers for factory transportation, such as lift and fork trucks, electrical hand trucks, and mechanical conveyors. 9. in this area (1938), the excavator plant worked 24 hours a day, employing over 10 thousand persons.
