L. This enterprise was formerly the Kowarskie Kopalnie in Kowary, okres eeienia
Gora. The first shaft was opened by the Germans in World War IL The address
is: Zaklady Przemjslowe Rajon 1: Kowary, okres Jelenia Gora. The mine manage-
ment and library are boated at Kowary� Osiedle. All pits in this mine
come under Rajon 1, in Kowary.
2. Of the mining machinery, the compressors, drills, transporters and elevators are
of German and Soviet make, and the machines for testing the oro are or Seviet50X1
make. Some of the equipment is of Polish manufacture. Haulinc 13 done by

3. In 1950 the mines produced at a rate of five to seven truckloads of ore a day.
In April 1952 the rate had dropped to one truckload a day. The ore is eeiieved
to contain about two percent uranium. The ore is loaded into metal containers oe
two sizes: _30x40cm and 30 x80cm. Ona truck can hold 120 to 1:30 of the former
and 70 of the latter. The truck drivers are armed with pistols and saonacnine
guns.
4. The mine is ,divided ihto four regions. Aegion 1 is in Kowary, ekres Jelenta Gera
(Hirschberg). Two other areas are: Ladek edroj (25-30km from Ulatz, eares
Bystrzyca Klodzka), and CzenStochowa.

5. About 100 Soviet specialists were employed at the mines. The truck driers were
also Soviets. In 1950 Hajon I employed 5000 to 6000 workers. In 19t2 Lt em-
ployed 2000 workers. Work was done on a piece work basis and the average wage el
a miner was 700 to 800 zloty. The general manager of the mine was a Pa e, (fnu
Kurek and the manager of Rajon 1 was a man of the same name. The aileciing chief
was (mu) Grubski, a Russian. The mine worked in three shifts. Abolt
workers were members of the Communist Party.
6. The enterprLse is guarded by about 100 men of the KBW (Internet Seeerite Corps)
who are stationed in Kowary with headquarters at Wiejskastrasse. The guard is
changed every four hours. The state highway from Kowary te Kamienna Cora is
guarded and vehicles are checked for permits to pass. All worIcers be GAO
