the Shanghai spinning mills had a
combined installation of approximateiy four million spindles with a maxi-
mum annual capacity of three million bales (400 lbs per bale) of yarn.
This is a theoretical capacity based on three shift (24-hour) operation
which was normal in Shanghai mills when adequate supplies of_raw cotton
were available.
3. Dyeing and finishing in a few instances is done by integrated mills, ie
those which spin, dye and weave cotton. In a few other instances it is
done by weaving mills. Generally however dyeing and finishing -is done by
Independent dye works.
