Products, equipment, etc: (The abbreviation HDB stands for Hnedouhelne doly, a briketarnY, brown coal mines and briquottingplant). The workshops of the HDB Sokolov produce parts for locomotives, turbines, mine equipment, and compressors. They also have a fitting . section. The workshops are equipped with lathes, milling machines, and welding machines; in the fitting and machining sections there is a mobile crane. Apart from the production of new parts, all workshop repairs to mining equipment are performed here. Machinery in the workshops is about 75 percent new. Motive power for production in the HDB Sokolov workshops is supplied by ejlectricity, and compressed air. 2. Approaches: The enterprisl is approachable by a railroad branch line, and by the Cheb- Sokolov highway, which skirts the installation. I do not know the numerical strength of the factory guard, but guards are on duty around the enterprise, and all employees entering or leaving the premiseS are checked. 3. Personnel, wages, etc: Approximately 250 persons are employed at the enterprise: 215 of these are men, the remainder women. Of the total number approximately 190 were workers, 60 clerical workers, and three engineers. Workers on the production line received about 4,500 crowns per month; master workmen and time and motion men (sic) earned about 8,000 crowns per month. Of the total enterprise staff, approximately 20 percent were Communists. The enter- prise normally worked on a two shift system, though a third shift was used occasionally. Tha morale of the workers (mostly the you E ones) was poor because of low earnings. Fights and demonstrations frequently occurred on paydays, which often necessitated calling in the factory guard. Workers constantly demanded higher pay. An all-enterprise meeting for all employees was held twice a month, and was normally attended by only 25 percent of the employees. The considerable quantities Communist propaganda circulated among the workers SEE LAST pAGiZ 7: 6: AREA CODES CLASSIFICATION CONFIDENTIAL DISTRIBUTION ORR EV npriaccifipri in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release @ 50-Yr 2014/11/04: CIA-RDP82-00047R000300740001-5 50X1 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release @ 50-Yr 2014/11/04: CIA-RDP82-00047R000300740001-5 - 2 - CONFIDENTIAL by factory radio) leaflets, various meetings, etc, had virtually no effect on the workers whoopmerely laughed at the Communists and, zirlong each other, cursed the regime.
