The Jochn foundry was built in 1930 and is located on the main street
of Lodz on the eastern edge of the city across the street from-the
"Plac Wolnosczi" /Free Square]. When in full production the foundry
employed 750 persons who worked two shifts, one beginning at 3 A.M.
and the other at 8A.M. The foundry manufactured machine tool parts
for lathes and drill presses. Most of the products were used in
Poland. Some, however, were shipped to Germany. In 1943 and 1944
the firm also began manufacturing furnace parts.
