The main street is Universetetskaye:tlitsa. All the streets in the city. are stone paved and mcst of them are wide from five to six meters . 2. As I remember there is no heavy indh,stry in Lubny except a tobacco, a leather and a sugar beet factory, and a flour mill N The largest building in the city is three stories high. ;3. Lubny has about seven percent Jewish population and the rest are Ukrainian and Soviet nationals. 4. A railroad station is situated on the western outskirts of the city. Traffic\.is both passenger and freight. There are about ten sidings in this stacion where the trains were supposed to wait for the arrival of trains from the opposite direction. However, due to the impatience of the engineers there were many accidents on this line. A single rail line runs west north- west towards Gorodishche from Lubny and southwest towards Solonitsa. 5. The Pedagogue Institute is located on Universetetskaya Ulitsa. It is a three-story brick building, contains about 20 glass rooms and is steam heated. The student body of the school totaled about two thousand with a greater per- centage of girls. Many male students were either being drafted or arrested. 6. Lubny also has a medical school for training both nurses and We. It is a three-story brick building. It has an enrollment of one thousand students, the greater percentage being girls. 7. There is a large hospital in the southwestern part of the city consisting of about one thousand beds. 8. Hanes situated in the center of Lubny are of brick construction and each home has abdut four or five rooms. Homes in the urban areas are built of wood and clay. Homes are heated by wood or peat. This included homes, business buildings, institutions, the railroad station, the jail, and the streets. The urban areas are not electrified. 10. The city has very few buses and the usual means of transporation was by home or bicycle. 11. A police station is situated on Professor street which is in the center of Lubny. It is of stone construction, three stories high and very old. People are brought here, interrogated, charges are pressed, and they are then sent to jail which is on the outskirts of the city.- 12. The jail is west of the city and south of the railroad line which runs to Oorodishche. It is large, very old, and has three floors. All the windows in the jail are shuttered. 13. The number of MVD.; in Lubny varies from time to time. There are about two hundred operating in civilian clothes and there is also a mili- tary MVD!,j police detachment of about two hundred. The military wear special olive drab color uniforms so that people can recognize them. They carry pistols and drive black cars. 14. There is a very large park in the center of the city where many people promenade. Before I came to Lubny there were about 10 old churches but the Soviets closed them all. 15. About two to three hundred meters east of Lubny is the Tula River and marsh- lands. A fishing license is required when net fishing but not. when fishing with a pole. i6. There is a large wcedland area north of Lubny. A dirt road goes through the woodlands. It takes about an hour to ride through the woods on a horse. One can find wild apples, cherries and berries, mushrooms and water in the ';woods, also foxes and rabbits. The oak trees in the woods are from 40 to two hundred years old, and very high. 17. In the area north and northeast of the city there are many wooden bridges across the Sula River and marshlands. 18. There is one main road from Lubny running north to Kiepachi and another from Lubny via Kommuna Kim running in the direction of Piryatin.
