THIS IS UNEVALUATED INFORMATION
Work on the BlackSea-Danube Canal had ceased during 1953 at which time
50X1 it Was far from being completed. Rumors in Rumania were that the Soviet
machinery which was being utilized on the Canal was defective and
conatintly breaking down thereby slowing down operations during 195253.
The Rumanian Government countered by spreading word that the workers, most
of whom were political prisoners, were sabotaging this project. It is
alleged that a. large group of these political prisoner labor groups were
dispatched to work in a newly founded uranium mine which has recently been
opened near Baia Naref Transylvania.
