It has been recognized that because of the conditions prevailing in the various countries-behind the Iron Curtain and the limitations placed upon the,U.S. Missions, information needs cannot be met in the same way or to the same extent that they are fulfilled in posts in free-world countries. The U.S. Missions, therefore, have been informed that they.are not ex- pected to provide analytical reports per se, but should endeavor to provide as many of the details as are available which make such analysis possible. 2.T?he Subcommittee on Requirements and Facilities for Collation consequently sponsored the preparation of a Guide to Economic Reporting, USSR, dated A,:;ril 30, 1953. Similar guides to econorac reporting have since been prepared for each of the following posts: Warsaw, Budapest, Bucharest, and Prague, 3. JContinuing guidance and comments concerning the economic j provided for each of the four posts in reporting a.re beinr Satellite countries. The reporting program is also being supported through the provisiZVn' of various aids such as brief background studies and maps, and it is being integrated with the Coordinated Travel Program recently initiated in the Satellites.
