intelligence statements and decided that there was no specific need
to make these into Subcommittee statements on collection deficiencies,
unless the EIC specifically so directed the Subcommittee. The ETC
did not so direct.

9. L'v-aluation of the Role of the Subcomittee
The Subcommittee's responsibility continues to remain outside
the main intelligence activity in the field of electric power. Re-
search on targeting of electric power facilities is done by DIA.
DIA and CIA produce area studies, incorporating electric power
information. The Office of Research and Reports, CIA, participates
in subcommittee meetizs s of the Joint Atomic Ener&v Intelligence
Cozmr~ittee and submits extensive reports on electric per to them.
All these activities are outside the purview of economic intelligence.
