Approved For Relea et~001/09/03 : CIA-RDP82-00283R0002 40012-8 SUBCOMMITTEE ON PETROLEUM Chairman: Baxter Wood. DIA Executive Secretary: CIA 25X1A9a A -Yencies Represented: State Navy AID DIA NSA Interior Army CIA OSD Meetings, Last meeting, May 1964 Activities durin FY 1965 Evaluation of the Role of the Subcommittee DIA The dynamic nature of intelligence production in the field of petroleum and ad hoc narrowly-focussed types of intelligence problems which have been posed to members of the subcommittee in recent years suggests that, only rarely, are there items of priority interest which concern more than one or two members of the subcommittee simultaneously. The process of preparing and coordinating the most recent issue of the series, "Military Consumption of Petroleum Products, Communist Countries, 1962-6. the major contribution to the community in recent years, involved directly DIA. With the exception of one or two elements, the "Agreed Basic Statistics" have reflected only estimates by CIA. The community has not called on the subcommittee to provide coordinated jointly-produced estimates. Because "s here has been no call on the subcommittee from external consumers and because of limited interest by all member agencies in the current problems of a particular few member agencies, there is some doubt as to the current utility of the subcommittee.
