Evaluation of the Role of the Subcommittee
DIA
The dynamic nature of intelligence production in the field of petroleum
and ad hoc narrowly-focussed types of intelligence problems which have
been posed to members of the subcommittee in recent years suggests that,

one or two members of the subcommittee simultaneously. The process of

Consumption of Petroleum Products, Communist Countries, 1962-6.
the major contribution to the community in recent years, involved directly
DIA. With the exception of one or two elements, the "Agreed Basic Statistics"
have reflected only estimates by CIA. The community has not called on the
subcommittee to provide coordinated jointly-produced estimates. Because

because of limited interest by all member agencies in the current problems
of a particular few member agencies, there is some doubt as to the current
utility of the subcommittee.
