SUBJECT: Annual Report of the Economic Defense Subcommittee
REFERENCE: EIC (EDSC) for the Fiscal Year 1965
A. Activities of the Sub ttee Duri the Fiscal Year U?5
1. The Subcommittee did not meet during the Fiscal Year 1965
and had no business. The same situation applied to both 1964 and
1963-
2. The need for the Subcommittee on Economic Defense, as a
medium for interagency review and coordination of intelligence
provided for economic defense activity apparently has ceased to
exist. The above-mentioned intelligence coordination is carried
on within the working groups of the EDAC/ACEP committee structure
and to some degree within other. subcommittees of the EIC. During
its existence.,.- since 1958 -- the Subcommittee has met only four
times.
B. Future Program of the Subcommittee
The annual report of the Subcommittee for 1964.raised the
question of its abolition if no business developed during the
ensuing fiscal year. In line with this proposal the Department of
Defense has recommended that the Subcommittee be abolished. There
should be no detrimental effect of the proposed abolition on.the
quality or quantity of intelligence support provided to the economic
defense community.
