The Economic D:reaae Intelligence Committee (ERIC) at its
meeting on 3 Sept= der 1958 ratified the attached Final Resort and
agreed to a proposal from the chair to request the telligence Ad-
visory Committee (W.') to merge the economic intelligence function
of EVIC with the Economic Intelligence Committee (EIC). I would urge
that the EIC consider this propo, a]. in the. near future in the hope
that #AC consideration of the praposal could coincide with its con-
cideration of the annual reports of the subject. orgsaisationa.
The membership of EDIC consider-ed the framework of or yi-
..ation and possible apeed of action outlined in your me> a~randum of
22 Au?'ust an appropriate basis for establiabnent of. the tends -of
ref ereace for an E.conomid Defense Subcommittee within the EtC. If
the ;D'r:Moposai outlined above is acceptable to the EEIC, we are prepared
to develop an agreed terns of reference for the proposed subcommittee
as soon as 3ossible.
