Approval of Minutes
1. Action: The minutes of the meeting of 4 October 1951
(IAC-M-47 were approved.
Recommended Plan to Accomplish
the Summary Evaluation Required
by Paragraph 2 of NSC Action
543. IC-D-29/5
2. Action: The procedure recommended by the JCS was noted.
3. Action: This estimate was approved subject to numerous
minor changes.
Progress Report (IAC-PR-18)
4. Action: It was noted that NIE-45, "Likelihood of a Soviet
Attempt to Promote a Broad Relaxation of Tensions," has become more
urgent and that NIE-46, "Current Outlook in Iran," should be held
up temporarily pending developments.
Proposed Estimates
5. Action: It was agreed to undertake estimates on the follow-
ing subjects:
a. Several separate estimates of strategic factors, prin-
cipally economic, by area;
b. Political and economic situation in Eastern Germany--for
SHAPE, urgent;
c. The situation in the event of a change of leadership in
Yugoslavia.
Channels for Proposing
New Estimates
6. Dr. Langer suggested that proposals for new estimates, after
approval by an IAC member, should be communicated directly to O/NE.
If necessary, Dr. Langer would then see that they were put on the
agenda for IAC discussion.
