Near East Developments Affecting US Interests,
dated 8 October 1957
I. Findings
1. In general, intelligence was available of sufficient quality
and with sufficient coverage to permit an informed estimate. We
would, however, have benefited from more detailed and precise
information on several subjects, all of which will almost certainly
remain matters of active intelligence concern. It is recognized that
under existing circumstances, and in view of the extent, complexity
and instability of the subject, some of this intelligence has been and
will continue to be very difficult to obtain.
The IAC agencies are requested to take such action as they deem
appropriate for dealing with these problems.
