The following points were brought out at a conference of Kurds in Damascus
on 12 November 1946, at which Hasan Hajjo Agha, Kurdish deputy from the
Jas: hp Abddal Ka im Munla Sadiq, member of Parliament from Ain Di warp
d .-Karim's son_, and others were present;
1. T a"a Agha is said to have asked if the United States could not do something
for the Kurds, and to have stated that if the Kurds w left to t selves,
they would move inevitably toward Russia.
2. All of the Kurds present at the, conference proposed that Great Br ttain t
with the support of the United States, should create an autonomous Kurdish
state in Iraq, with allegiance to the Crown of Iraq and not to the government;
in other wow, something like the comeorn aiths of the British &pire.
3. The Kurds stated that travellers from Iran were bringing them r rs of events
in that country, and were also providing them with copies of the Kurdish
language newspaper Kurdistan,which is printed in the Arabic alphabet. They
said that the editor o + s paper is a man named Ibrahim Nadiri said to
have been a former student in the American University of Beirute :9 He was
also described as being a leader in the education department established
by Qasi Muhammad in Kurdistan.
4* The Kurds, in speaking of their cultureL and educational program for Syria,
referred to the fact that, according to information, Qazi Muhammad's gover-
ment has opened 72 schools.
5. Referring to azi Muhammad's "independence?pe Hasen Hajjo is said to have

gone under a different na a or that he may have been a student at
one of the American missionary schools.
