SUPPLEMENT
. gr. Gennaio Verolini, fermar assistant to Msgr. Rottap Papa., Nuncio
in Hungary, who was sent as an observer to Prague returned to Roe and
disclosed that the position of the Rowan Catholic and Eastern Churches
is strong in the Carpatho-Ukraine despite strong pressure from the
Soviets.
Msgr. Romza was appointed administrator of the Carpatho-Ukraine by the
Pope shortly before the Russian occupation. He succeeded in resisting
the conversion of Catholics to Orthodoxy which the Russians attempted to
force, The Orthodox priests under oviet influ once forced the illiter-
ates to sign statements of adherence to the Moscow i hurch. The Catholic
clergy vi.thout exception reined faithful to Rome.
